2012 Scallop Research Set-Aside Program

The United States Department of Commerce is a Cabinet department of the US government that is primarily responsible for promoting the country's economic growth.

The agency's mission is to "promote job creation and improved living standards for all Americans by creating an infrastructure that promotes economic growth, technological competitiveness, and sustainable development."

Among other things, the agency's tasks include gathering economic and demographic data, issuing patents and trademarks, and setting industrial standards.

The Department of Commerce, in cooperation with the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), has recently established a project entitled 2012 Scallop Research Set-Aside Program.

In this program, the agencies will utilize the Scallop Total Allowable Catch(TAC) that has been set-aside to fund the scallop research endeavors through the 2012 Atlantic Sea Scallop Research Set-Aside (RSA) Program.
