Much of the international aid provided by the United States government goes to support education and healthcare efforts around the world. Many of these programs are design to encourage the spread of American values to other countries.

One such program is the American Schools and Hospitals Abroad Program.

The United States Agency for International Development has announced funding in the amount of $20 million for the American Schools and Hospitals Abroad Program in 2012.

The objective of the program is to provide assistance to schools and libraries around the world that have been started of sponsored by U.S. citizens. These schools should serve as demonstration centers for promulgating United States values in the countries in which they are located.

The program also supports hospital centers designed to offer medical education and research that have been set up by U.S. citizens.

This funding is available to United States based nonprofit organizations that have either founded or support the institutions for witch the funds are intended.

American Schools and Hospitals Abroad Program is funded under the broader Federal Foreign Assistance to American Schools and Hospitals Abroad program outlined in the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance.
