The National Cancer Institute, more commonly referred to as NCI, is an agency operating within the National Institutes of Health that is largely accountable for conducting and supporting research studies, training courses, health information dissemination, and other activities that are associated with the causes, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer, and cancer survivorship.

The National Cancer Institute has developed the Cancer Education Grants Program wherein it seeks to financially support innovative educational efforts that would contribute to the reduction of cancer incidences, morbidity and mortality rates; as well as the improvement of the quality of life of surviving cancer patients.

The Cancer Education Grants Program has been existent since the year 1994 and has long been providing support to innovative cancer education grants program that aim to translate the knowledge obtain from the research studies into actual public health applications.

The program is exclusively intended for biomedical researchers, health professionals, dental, medical, nursing, and several other health professional students, including graduate and undergraduate students; and members of the lay community.

The National Institutes of Health has recently established a program entitled Improving Adherence to Treatment Regimens for HIV-Positive Adolescents and Young Adults wherein they intend to kick-off research studies that will create, implement, and evaluate both old and new interventions that are geared towards improving adherence to medical and behavioral regimens for HIV-positive adolescents which are 11 to 21 years old and adults who are 21 to 24 years old.


Health Care Fraud Program Expansion and Senior Medical Patrol Capacity Building Grants
In line with this mission, the Administration on Aging has recently established the Health Care Fraud Program Expansion and Senior Medical Patrol Capacity Building Grants in an attempt to boost the capacity of the Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) program to reach more Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries, their families and caregivers, while focusing on fraud prevention and identification.


National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Career Transition Award
In keeping with this mission, the National Institutes of Health has collaborated with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to establish the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Career Transition Award Program.
