The NRCS has stipulated that the CIG program will not funds projects that are currently in their testing phase because the primary goal of the program is to adopt the philosophies of programs that have already been thoroughly studies and tested, and have a high potential for success.

The applicants of this program will have to undergo a two-phase screening process that would require them to submit a pre-proposal.

If successful, the Natural Resources Conservation Service will award annual funds in the amount of $225,000 for a maximum project period of three years.

The institutions and organizations who will be considered eligible to submit an application under this program are the following:

a) State, City, County and Township Governments

b) Special District Governments

c) Independent School Districts

d) State Controlled Institutions of Higher Education

e) Native American Tribal Organizations

f) Private Institutions of Higher Education

g) Small Businesses

h) Non-profit and for-profit organizations

The United States Department of Agriculture, the mother agency funding the Conservation Innovation Grants Program, is the country's leading agency that is primarily known for its relentless anti-hunger efforts, as well as product safety and conservation initiatives.
