The National Park Services has recently announced its intent to award the Mount Sanford Tribal Consortium with an estimated amount of $29,961 to be used in the development of cultural resource projects.

The funds awarded to the MSTC will be used mainly for the Community History of Former Village Sites in the Nabesna District project. The MSTC was suited best for this project because it showcased more emphasized abilities to undertake programs related to cultural heritage, which is why it was considered as the organization that is best qualified to carry out the project.

The project basically involves the provision of support to the preservation of Upper Ahtna culture and the sustenance of the Ahtna connection to Wrangell-St Elias National Park and Preserve.

This funding opportunity is solely exclusive to the Mount Sanford Tribal Consortium.

The Department of the Interior, the agency under which the National Park Service operates, is the nation's principal agency in-charge of preserving the country's natural and cultural heritage, including those involving Indian tribes and island communities located in the US and its territories.

This cooperative agreement is essential to the National Park Service because it helps the agency achieve its objectives of conserving the cultural resources and heritage of national parks while simultaneously providing enjoyment to the present and future generations.
