Family Planning Services Grants

The Office of Public Health and Safety (OPHS), is an agency operating within the Department of Health and Human Services(HHS). It is one of the many departments developed by the federal government to ensure that the all the nation's health-related concerns are being addressed.

The Office of the Public Health and Safety's work is greatly centered on coordinating public health and science issues to the HHS.

In keeping with the agency's objectives, OPHS has recently established a funding opportunity entitled Family Planning Services Grants, a program wherein the OPHS, along with the HHS, will award grants to eligible individuals who seek to operate voluntary family planning services projects that would provide family planning services to everyone who desires to avail of such services, including low-income families in under-served areas.

The proposed family planning services should will have to include clinical family planning and related preventive health services, information, education and counseling associated with family planning practices, and referral services.

In addition, OPHS also requires the family planning service grantees to design their proposals around the agency's priorities, which are:

a) To be able to ascertain the delivery of high quality family planning services which are greatly related preventive health services, thereby leading to the improvement in the general health of all individuals availing those services, giving priority to low-income families;

b) To be able to provide easy access to a wide range of acceptable and efficient family planning strategies that are related to preventive health services which would include family planning methods, infertility services, services for adolescents, teen pregnancy prevention, and the exclusion of abortion as a family planning method;
