Medical Tropical Research Laboratory Program Infectious Disease Research Award

by:

The Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences, otherwise known as AFRIMS, is a Special Foreign Activity of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) that is mainly located in Bangkok, Thailand.

AFRIMS is one of the most premiere tropical medicine research laboratories in the world that is designed to develop new deployable and nondeployable products that would detect, prevent and control infectious diseases, and to conduct surveillance of endemic and emerging infectious diseases in tropical countries.

In line with this, AFRIMS has recently announced the WRAIR Medical Tropical Research Laboratory Program(MTRLP) Infectious Disease Research Award(IDRA), a funding opportunity which solicits proposals that aim to tackle basic, preclinical and clinical research of emerging infectious diseases in Thailand and a certain region in Southeast Asia.

The ideal activities included in the proposed research studies should contain basic scientific research, disease surveillance, testing in animal models, clinical trials of drugs and devices that are potentially essential to the detection and prevention of tropical infectious diseases that are militarily relevant to the United States Military and the Royal Thai Army.

In addition, the proposed studies should focus mainly on the health care needs of military service members and civilian populations in tropical regions worldwide, all in conjunction with the Royal Thai Army Medical Department and AFRIMS.
