OMICS Technologies For Predictive Modeling of Infectious Diseases Program
Page 2

Essentially, this program has been established to make use of the aforementioned "omics" technologies to develop predictive modeling processes of infectious disease initiation, progression and outcome.

The guidelines of the grant requires that the applicants develop a program that has a solid foundation on data analysis and mathematical modeling to identify, quantify, model and predict the architecture and dynamics of systems-wide host/pathogen molecular interaction networks, including metabolic, regulatory and signaling networks, at different stages of infection.

The program hopes that the State-of-the-art next-generation sequencing, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and other high-throughput "omics" technologies could successfully enable the efficient generation of very large experimental data sets that can be integrated to build/train predictive computational models of complex biological systems.

To support these initiatives, the NIH is set to administer funds in the amount of $13,000,000.

The institutions and organizations who will be deemed eligible to participate this program are the following:

a) State Governments

b) County Governments

c) City or Township Governments

d) Special District Governments

f) Independent School Districts

g) Public and State Controlled Institutions of Higher Education

h) Native American Tribal Governments

i) Nonprofit Organizations

j) Small Businesses

k) Private Institutions of Higher Education

Exploratory Clinical Trials for Small Business Grant Program
The National Institutes of Health has formed a partnership with the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) in order to establish the Exploratory Clinical Trials for Small Business Grant Program wherein they aim to establish a vehicle for Small Business Concerns (SBCs) in the process of submitting Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant applications for exploratory clinical trials directly to the NIND

Mechanisms Mediating Osteoarthritis in Aging
The National Institutes of Health, in close cooperation with The National Institute on Aging and the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, has recently established a program called Mechanisms Mediating Osteoarthritis in Aging in an effort to improve and encourage the characterization of new and underutilized models in order to gain a deeper understanding of mechanisms that are involved in osteoarthritic progression.

Development of Therapeutics and Diagnostics for Biodefense Program
The National Institutes of Health, in partnership with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases(NIAID), has established the Development of Therapeutics and Diagnostics for Biodefense Program in an attempt to seek research proposals that desire to support the development of lead candidate diagnostics or therapeutics against NIAID Category A, B, or C priority agents.

HRSA: Reducing Loss to Follow-up after Failure to Pass Newborn Hearing Screening
Reducing to Loss of Follow-up after Failure to Pass Newborn Hearing Screening program enables eligible health care institutions to solicit funds by establishing project proposals that would greatly improve the number of infants receiving appropriate and timely follow-ups through the utilization of patient-centered interventions.
