The National Institutes of Food and Agriculture, otherwise known as NIFA, is a federal government agency operating within the United States Department of Agriculture that is essentially responsible for consolidating all federally-funded agricultural research studies in the country.

The grants and programs of NIFA are specifically designed to contribute to the realization of its primary general mission which is to "stimulate and fund the research and technological innovations that will enhance and make American agriculture more productive and environmentally sustainable while ensuring the economic viability of agriculture and production."
In keeping with this mission, the National Institutes of Food and Agriculture has recently established the Tribal Colleges Research Grants Program in an attempt to conduct agricultural research studies that address high priority concerns of tribal, national, or multistate significance.
